Naliq? Uvaq!

Naliq? Uvaq! is a playful exchange many Inuit are familiar with where someone calls out "Naliq?" ("which one?") and the first person to answer "Uvaq!"*  ("here") may either receive something, or be asked to do something in return. It's a fun little game of surprise where you never quite know which you'll get!

***Like many Inuktitut words and expressions, there are many regional variations and "Uvvaq" may be considered proper, but as kids Uvaq was used more often in South Baffin.
